A hedonistic proposal of decadent and domestic wardrobe pieces punctuated with American pop culture references and couture-level detail.

For the Paco Rabanne Resort 2020 collection, Julien Dossena advances the creative direction and savoir-faire of the house through dynamic, dandyish musings.

Layered-up looks put an alternate slant on kitsch: Elvis reincarnated as an elegantly studded suit; Dynasty-style dresses for downtown girls; classic sailor sweaters that simultaneously nod to David Hockney; Roxy Music and David Bowie stage clothes dialed down as contemporary daywear.

On this vivid journey from Paris to Palm Springs, genres collide with flash and finesse. Cherry blossom branches sweep across a metal mesh hostess dress; rockabilly fitted tailoring is patterned in soft tea roses; Western-inspired jackets are rendered in silver python effect and lipstick red leather with faux fur; a draped dress covered in Hawaiian palms gets paired with an iridescent pink tuxedo jacket; ruffled prairie dresses and plissé silk skirts are worn with sharp-edged cowboy boots; cardigans are embellished with metallic scrollwork and diamante buds.

Heritage is further reanimated by material innovation: New sparkly chain metal assemblages, lilac petal and round rose gold pastilles, geometric lurex knitwear, and the Paco Rabanne Iconic 1969 bags in phone-friendly sizes and high-impact bi-color and tri-color variations of silver, gold and black. Metal mesh evening bags are printed in the season’s floral and fireworks motifs. An expanded jewellery selection takes dual inspiration from the artisanal spirit of New Mexico and the fantasy glitz of Old Hollywood.
